CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern men's basketball Head
Coach Barclay Radebaugh and senior guard Jamarco Warren provide
their thoughts following CSU's 101-90 win Thursday. Feb. 3 vs.
VMI.
Coach Radeabugh
On his general thoughts from the game:
"First, just tremendous credit to VMI. They played lights out.
I mean, they played lights out. They shot the ball, contested, got
to the rim. They played very well, well-prepared, and just a really
good basketball team. Also, congratulations to our team. We played
tremendous, and we played tremendous on the offensive end. I
thought we controlled the tempo well. We didn't turn the ball over;
11 turnovers. Our guards did a good job; we got the ball inside, we
got it back out. Against (VMI), you always have to keep your foot
on the pedal, and for 40 minutes our guys kept the foot on the
pedal and were able to withstand an unbelievable shooting display
by VMI."
On defending Austin Kenon:
"I told Kenon that I'm going to miss him, and I really am, but
I'm glad that he's gone. Is there a better shooter in college
basketball than he and Jamarco on the same floor at the same time?
Kenon just played just a tremendous game, just a tremendous game.
We tried all different things on him. We tried "x-ing" him, we
tried "t-ing" him; we tried switching; we tried everything, and he
just took a step back and shot the ball even deeper."
On the rebounding prowess of Kelvin Martin:
"Kelvin Martin, pound for pound, inch for inch, is the best
rebounder in college basketball. There's taller and longer, but
pound for pound, inch for inch, he's the finest rebounder in
college basketball, bar none."
On the guard play that CSU exhibited Thursday:
"Tremendous, tremendous discipline by Jamarco, and Jeremy;
just tremendous discipline, to slow it down, to not take a quick
three, to move it, get to the rim, and we shoot 61 percent. They
followed the game plan perfectly, and Jamarco played like a senior
guard tonight. He controlled the tempo with his dribble, and slowed
it down, but still kept enough pressure on them to get the layups
that you try to get against their pressure."
On the significance of Saturday's game against Liberty:
"It's huge. It's huge. We gotta stay in the hunt. Every game;
we've put ourselves in a position that every game is a big game. On
Saturday, we should have people crawling out of the rafters."
Jamarco Warren
On his back-to-back battle against VMI's Austin
Kenon:
"It was very competitive on both ends, trying to defend and
score at the same time, but we just tried to maintain the lead
well."
On his rivalry against Kenon throughout the past four
seasons:
"It's a big level of respect. We've known each other, and are
capable of doing great things on the floor."
On the team's change in tempo against VMI:
"Yeah, because they like to play very fast; also, we like to
play fast, but tonight we just pulled it back and played a lot,
very calm."
