CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Buccaneers struggled to find their offense, putting up just two hits as they fell 11-0 to Virginia Military Institute at CSU Ballpark on Friday afternoon.

The Bucs (20-18, 7-6) and the Keydets (17-16-1, 6-7) will meet for the second game of the series Saturday afternoon at CSU Ballpark. Due to the threat of inclement weather, the game has been moved to noon.

Tom Burkett and Brandon McKinney each had a hit for the Bucs, with Burkett going 1-for-4. McKinney went 1-for-1 after coming in to pinch hit at the bottom of the night. CSU's two hits tied its season low, while the 19 hits they surrendered to the Keydets were a season high.

Stew Brase got the start for CSU, giving up eight hits and five runs, three of which were earned, in 5.2 innings. He struck out four batters on the day and took the loss to drop to 4-4 on the season. Brennan Dorsett was the most successful of the three relief pitchers, holding VMI hitless and striking out two.

VMI starter Coby Cowgill had a strong outing, giving up just two hits in 8.1 innings while striking out five.

Sam Roberts was 4-for-4 with a run and four RBI for the Keydets. Chase Worthington went 3-for-4 with two RBI, crossing home plate twice. Graham Sullivan also had a hit and two RBI, while Justin Hess was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

It was a pitchers' duel for the first three innings, as neither team put a run on the board. VMI was the first to strike, with Worthington and Rob Dickinson scored on a single by Roberts to put the Keydets up 2-0 in the top of the fourth.

The Keydets were back at it again in the sixth inning when Justin Hess singled to drive home Jacob Morley and put the score at 3-0 in favor of the Keydets. Hess kicked off a stretch of three straight base hits that allowed him to cross home plate as well, making the score 4-0. Roberts then scored on a wild pitch to stretch VMI's lead to five.

Things didn't get better for the Bucs in the seventh inning, as VMI put up three more runs. Morley singled down the left field line to score Alex Haitsuka before Worthington singled to the shortstop to drive home Dickinson to put the Keydets ahead 7-0. Morley made it home on a sac fly by Roberts to keep VMI ahead 8-0 in the top of the seventh.
