JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Yvonne Hubler, Marija Dzakovic, and
Alexandra Walters all posted individual victories, but it was not
enough for the Charleston Southern women's tennis team to prevail
as they dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match to North Florida on Tuesday
afternoon.
CSU (3-1) also received a win from the third doubles combination
of Susita Das and Alia Nour, but could not keep its dual match
record perfect as the Ospreys emerged triumphant at number one and
two doubles to decide the match.
Playing in the number three, four, and five singles spots,
Hubler, Dzakovic, and Walters all enjoyed straight set victories.
Dzakovic was pushed to the limit in the second set by North
Florida's Rebecca Pereira, though, as she won a tie-breaker,
10-4.
Olga Makhova and Angelica Sidorenko could not top their foes
from the Ospreys, but Alia Nour nearly picked up the slack for them
in the sixth and final singles spot. Nour dropped the opening set
but only after forcing a tie-break, where she lost by a tally of
10-6. Nour was part of another thriller in her doubles match
alongside Das, claiming a victory with a 7-3 tie-breaker
margin.
CSU returns to Charleston for the first of six straight home
matches this Saturday against Radford. The match will serve as the
Big South opener for both sides and play is set to begin at 11 a.m.
The Bucs defeated Radford, 4-3, on the road last season, and the
Highlanders were tabbed 8th out of nine teams in this year's Big
South preseason poll.
