
Bucs Move by Minutemen, 6-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern tennis team rebounded from a narrow loss at College of Charleston to register a resounding 6-1 victory over UMass on Monday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
CSU (9-2) was once again powered in part by Alexandra Walters, who pulled out a tie-breaker win for the second match in a row to run her singles mark to 11-0. Walters lost the first set to UMass' Chanel Glasper, but recovered to win the second set, 6-4, and a third-set tie-breaker, 10-7.
The Bucs swept the doubles matches to start off the day, as Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic led the way with a dominating 8-1 triumph over the Minutemen's top duo. Walters and Yvonne Hubler took the most closely contested match of doubles play, topping UMass' Sonia Bokhari and Hazuki Onaga, 9-7.
In singles play, UMass managed at win at the number four spot, but CSU received straight-set wins from Makhova, Hubler, Angelica Sidorenko and Alia Nour, in addition to Walters' dramatic victory.
Already 2-0 in Big South Conference action, the Bucs head back
into league play with two crucial road matches this weekend. First
up is a meeting with Winthrop Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a trip
to Boiling Springs and a bout with Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
