Faircloth's Blast Helps CSU End Campbell's Streak at 18

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - John Faircloth's game-tying, two out, three-run homer in the ninth sent the game into extra innings, and Harrison Wilkins scored the game-winning run in the 10th to propel Charleston Southern to a 4-3 win over Campbell University in game one of a three-game Big South Conference series on Friday night.

CSU's win ended the nation's longest winning streak at 18 as Campbell lost for only the fourth time this season. The Buccaneers improved to 9-18 overall and 2-2 in Big South play while Campbell dropped to 23-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Though he did not factor in the decision. CSU starting pitcher Ryan Gunther was solid in his outing. allowing three runs on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings. The junior struck out three and walked one.

The game was scoreless until the sixth when Campbell took a 1-0 lead on Ben McQuown's homerun. Nick Ray added an RBI single later in the inning for a 2-0 lead. After adding a run in the eighth, Campbell carried a 3-0 lead into the ninth.

In the top of the ninth, Jaren Sustar reached on an infield single. After Robbie Streett struck out, Sustar reached second on Alex Tomasovich's ground out. With two outs, Chase Shelton reached on an infield single, bringing up Faircloth, who belted his first homerun of the season to right, tying the game at three..

After Kyle Ward and Corey Deighan combined on a scoreless bottom of the ninth, the Bucs would take the lead in the 10th. With one out, Wilkins singled to left and moved to second on Bobby Ison's sacrifice bunt. Sustar followed with a high chopper to third. Olson's throw to first was wide and Wilkins was able to score from second on the play.

Deighan (2-2) pitched a scoreless home half of the frame for the victory. Shelton, Tomasovich, Sustar and Wilkins each had two hits to pace the Bucs offensively.

The Bucs and Camels will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
