CSU Routs Campbell in BSC Tourney Opening Round

Box score

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Charleston Southern tennis team rolled to a seventh consecutive victory and a spot in the Big South Women's Tennis Championship semifinals with a 4-0 win over No. 7 seed Campbell at the Asheville Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon.

The Bucs downed the Fighting Camels 5-2 in their only regular season meeting, and set the tone immediately in the rematch by winning all three of the doubles matches in dominating fashion. Alexandra Walters and Marija Dzakovic teamed up at number two doubles to lead the way, posting an 8-0 win over Campbell's Tamara Stanic and Katya Yegoreychenko. Yvonne Hubler and Olga Makhova then clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory at the number one spot. Alian Nour and Angelica Sidorenko also led their match, 6-2, before doubles play concluded.

CSU (16-3) then emerged triumphant in all three of the completed singles matches to secure the overall victory. Makhova bested Chernaya 6-3, 6-1, to lead the way at singles after being named to the all-conference team for a fourth consecutive season on Wednesday. Hubler and Nour also grabbed victories, with Nour's being her 14th in a row. CSU was on pace to sweep the singles portion competition as well, as Sidorenko and Walters enjoyed second set leads after winning the opening set, while Dzakovic had rebounded from a loss in the first set to win the second just before play was stopped.

CSU's victory earns it a date with third-seeded Coastal Carolina, who upended No. 6 Liberty by an identical 4-0 final to advance to the semifinals. The Bucs came from behind to defeat the Chanticleers, 4-3, and lock up the number two seed while sending Makhova and Dzakovic out as winners in their final home match on Senior Day, April 11. Action in the rematch is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
