BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Linzy Rother launched a grand slam and tied a Charleston Southern single-game program record with 7 RBI as the Bucs throttled Gardner-Webb, 8-1, in the finale of a three-game set at Varsity Field on Sunday afternoon.

The only other CSU player to drive in seven runs was Cindy Ramsey, who did her damage against USC Aiken in 1988.

Rother delivered her biggest blow in the top of the first, connecting for her third homer of the year off Gardner-Webb (22-24, 8-8) reliever Alyssa Gutierrez, who entered after starter Jessica Childers was pulled after 0.1 innings. The junior from Long Beach, California powered a long drive over the left field fence to bring home Jana Matthews, Megan Lombard and Jessica Brock.

Rother then added insurance for CSU (28-21, 11-7) in the fifth, highlighting another four-run rally with a three-run shot over the left-center field wall. The offensive prowess of her first baseman was more than enough for Morgan Dowdy (16-11), who spun 7.0 innings of one-run ball while scattering six hits, yielding two walks, and striking out five.

Kristin Kelleher also collected two hits for the Bucs, while Lombard and Matthews each scored two runs courtesy of Rother's power showcase.

The Bucs now take a two-week break from game action to prepare for and take final exams. Following that layoff, CSU will entertain first-place Radford in a three-game series to cap the regular season on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6.
