LEXINGTON, Va. - Charleston Southern (20-30, 11-10) had four pitchers combine for a shutout and the offense pounded out 12 hits in a 6-0 win over VMI (15-34, 7-17) on Sunday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium, giving the Buccaneers the series victory in the process.

Patrick Dolan (4-4) picked up the victory for the Bucs on the mound. The right-handed senior went six innings of shutout baseball, allowing just five hits and one walk while fanning eight Keydet batters.

Denis Buckley, Kyle Ward and Corey Deighan each threw a scoreless inning of relief for CSU in the win. Buckley has now gone 15 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Alex Tomasovich provided all the offense the CSU pitching staff would need when he took the first pitch of the top of the second inning over the left field wall for a solo homerun, his second of the season. Later in the inning, Bobby Ison drove in Harrison Wilkins, who singled earlier in the inning, with an RBI single into left field for a 2-0 Buc lead.

Chase Shelton continued his red-hot series at the plate in the top of the third with a single that hit off the glove of VMI starting pitcher Andrew Deal (2-2) before ricocheting to third base. Robbie Streett followed with a walk and Tomasovich followed with his second hit of the game, a single that snuck past shortstop Nick Dwyer to load the bases. This time it was Wilkins who would drive in the run as he dropped a base hit right on the line in left field to plate Shelton and give CSU a 3-0 lead.

Singles by Streett and Jaren Sustar would give Charleston Southern runners on first and second with one out in the top half of the fifth frame and Wilkins would draw a walk to load the bases. VMI would then go to the bullpen for the second time in the ball game, this time bringing on John Garrett. Garrett would get Thomas Levander to strike out for the second out but senior Blake Hunt would come thru with a two RBI single into left field that would score Streett and Sustar, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Buccaneers would conclude the scoring when Chase Shelton scored on a passed ball in the top of the sixth.

Deal allowed eight hits and three runs (all earned) in three innings for VMI and would be saddled with the loss. He struck out four and walked one.

Rob Dickinson led the Keydet offense, collecting three of their eight hits in the ball game.

The Charleston Southern offensive onslaught featured two-hit performances from Shelton, Tomasovich, Wilkins and Hunt. Eight of the nine CSU starters collected at least one hit in the contest.

Charleston Southern returns to action on Tuesday evening, traveling to UNC-Wilmington to square-off with the CAA regular-season champions. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
