Wilmington tops Bucs 5-2 in regular season finale

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Alia Nour and Yvonne Hubler both recorded singles wins in the Buccaneers final tune-up before next week's Big South Conference Tennis Championships as CSU took on UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, but the Seahawks ultimately prevailed on the UNCW Courts with the 5-2 victory.

Nour extended her team-best 13 match winning streak, recording the victory when Kelly Cameron was forced to retire on court no. 4, while Hubler downed Christina Riley in straight sets on court no. 2 for the Buccaneers, improving her record to 11-2 overall in singles action on the season.

Charleston Southern falls to 12-6 overall with the loss, while UNC Wilmington improves to 12-6 on the year.

The Seahawks took the opening point on the afternoon, sweeping all three doubles matches to go up 1-0 early.

Angie Sekely and Alyssa Ritchie teamed up to end Hubler and Alexandra Walters' 11 match winning streak in doubles play, defeating the CSU duo, 8-1, to open the action. Cameron and Miller Hales followed shortly afterward with an 8-3 win on court no. 3 over Marketa Placha and Susita Das, while Christine Kharkevich and Olga Blank closed out doubles play with an 8-3 win over Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko on court no. 1.

Kharkevich continued the Seahawks run with an opening win on court no. 6, topping Chanel Bell 6-1, 6-1 to begin singles action.

Ritchie finished shortly afterward with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court no. 2 over Susita Das before Hubler picked up the first Bucs' point on the afternoon, topping Riley on court no. 2, 6-3, 6-3.

Sekely clinched the match win for UNC Wilmington, topping Placha 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) on court no. 1, while Nour and Cameron battled into the second set before the Seahawks' athlete was forced to retire, leaving Nour with the 6-7 (2-7), 4-1 win.

Blank closed out the action with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win on court no. 3, defeating Sidorenko to end the afternoon's action.

Charleston Southern returns to action next weekend in the 2013 Big South Women's Tennis Championships, hosted at the Winthrop Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C. The Bucs will take on a yet-to-be determined opponent in Thursday's quarterfinal matches.
