Sidorenko clinches as Bucs sweep past Radford, 7-0

RADFORD, Va. - Charleston Southern took two of the three doubles matches and Angelica Sidorenko clinched the match with a straight sets victory as the Buccaneers swept host Radford on Saturday afternoon at the Radford Tennis Complex, 7-0.

The Buccaneers improve to 10-5, 6-1 in Big South Conference play this season, while Radford falls to 6-12, 3-5 in conference action on the season.

Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters opened up doubles action with the win on court no. 2, running their Big South Conference record to 7-0 on the season with an 8-2 victory over Allison Michael and Hana Babic.

Gemma Valls and Taylor Fay evened the score with their 8-6 win on court no. 3, topping Susita Das and Marketa Placha.

In the clinching point, Alia Nour and Sidorenko topped Taylor Newman and Meg Napolitano on court no. 1 in one of their toughest matches of the season as the CSU duo pulled out the 9-8 (7-3) win to give CSU the 1-0 lead.

In singles play, the Bucs swept all six matches to close out the 7-0 victory.

Nour kept her undefeated streak in Big South Conference action, defeating Fay on court no. 5, 6-0, 6-0. The Cairo, Egypt, native won her 10th match in a row to run her record to 7-0 in BSC play on the season.

Hubler finished shortly after on court no. 2, topping Valls with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, and Sidorenko clinched the Bucs victory on court no. 3, defeating Babic 6-1, 6-2.

Das kept the Buccaneer wins coming as the senior topped Allison Michael on court no. 6, 6-4, 6-1. Placha followed with the 6-4, 6-2 victory on court no. 1, defeating Newman to put the Bucs ahead 6-0.

In the final match of the day, Walters took on Napolitano on court no. 4. The Adelaide, Australia, native entered the day with a 6-0 record in Big South Conference action, but quickly fell behind in dropping the first set, 6-0. The junior rallied back with the 6-3 win to force the deciding third set tiebreaker and held on to record the 13-11 win to close out the match.

Charleston Southern remains on the road as the Bucs travel to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Liberty University tomorrow afternoon. First serve between the Bucs and the Flames is set for 1 p.m.
