CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern improved to 2-0 at home at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex as the Bucs swept visiting Wofford on Saturday afternoon, 7-0.
The Buccaneers improved to 3-3 overall on the season, picking up their second win in a row as Charleston Southern swept all three doubles matches to open the afternoon before Marketa Placha took home the final point on court no. 1, topping Sarah Evans, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
The Buccaneers opened up the action in doubles play as Placha and Nicolin Luecke topped Taylor Carlson and Kalli Karas on court no. 3, 8-1. Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters clinched the CSU point to put Charleston Southern ahead 1-0 in topping Evans and Julia Paulson on court no. 1, 8-2. Mi'Kola Cooper and Alia Nour closed out the sweep with an 8-3 win on court no. 2 over Catherine Martin and Mareli Sanchez.
Hubler continued the Bucs winning streak as singles action began, topping Audrey Coventry on court no. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Walters pushed CSU within one point of clinching the win in defeating Paulson on court no. 3. The CSU senior swept in straight sets in topping the Wofford athlete 6-1, 6-0.
Luecke clinched the Bucs win on court no. 4, defeating Martin in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Cooper finished shortly after on court no. 6, defeating Sanchez 7-5, 6-0. Nour continued the winning streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Karas on court no. 5.
In the final match of the day, Placha was taken to the second set tiebreaker after downing Evans 6-3 in the first set. With the crowd circling around court no. 1, the CSU junior closed out the sweep with the 7-6 (7-5) victory to end the afternoon and the Buccaneers 7-0 victory.
Charleston Southern is back in action next Friday as the Buccaneers travel to Columbia, S.C., to take on Columbia College. First serve against the Fighting Koalas in doubles action is set for 2:30 p.m.
