Buccaneers roll past Southern Miss, 7-0

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Yvonne Hubler clinched the match win as Charleston Southern swept past the visiting Golden Eagles of Southern Miss on Monday afternoon, 7-0, at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
Charleston Southern took two of the three doubles matches and all six of the singles matches in straight sets as the Buccaneers improved to 7-3 overall on the season with the victory.
Opening play in doubles competition, the Golden Eagles took the first match as Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen topped Alexandra Walters and Hubler on court no. 1, 8-1. The Buccaneers bounced back to even doubles play behind an 8-6 win on court no. 3 by Marketa Placha and Nicolin Luecke.
The deciding match went into the tiebreaker between CSU's Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko and USM's Mahitha Dadireddy and Lisa Noderer, but the Buccaneers duo prevailed 8-6 to take the 8-7 win and the doubles point.
In singles action, Luecke continued her recent hot streak in dispatching Kathrin Waidner on court no. 4, 6-1, 6-0. Placha finished close behind her doubles partner with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court no. 2 over Drescher before Hubler clinched the CSU point with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court no. 1 against Dadireddy.
The Buccaneers sweep continued as Mi'Kola Cooper was the next off the court with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court no. 6 against Kitchen. Walters finished soon after with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court no. 3 and Nour battled through a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win over Karina Gurgenyan on court no. 5 to end the day's action.
Charleston Southern is back in action this week as the Buccaneers take to the road on Thursday, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on conference foe Campbell. First serve in doubles action between CSU and Campbell is set for 2 p.m.
