MYRTLE, BEACH, S.C. – Charleston Southern starter Levi Mauldin gave up one earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work and Austin Weekley picked up his sixth save of the season as the Bucs shut down Coastal Carolina, 3-1, on Saturday night at Pelicans Park.

CSU moves to 16-13 overall and 2-6 in Big South play, while Coastal falls to 11-16 and 3-5 in league play.

Senior Alex Tomasovich extended his nation's-best hitting streak to 22 games with a single in the fifth inning. He finished 1-for-5.

Mauldin (WP, 3-1) took a shutout into the sixth inning and Tyler Weekley recorded the final two outs of the sixth to get the Bucs out of a bases-loaded jam. Reliever Joe Pistacchio worked a scoreless eighth, again working out of a bases-packed jam. Weekley worked a perfect ninth to move within two of his own school record in saves in a season.

The Bucs pieced together enough offense to squeeze a win out of the evening, despite being out hit 10-7.

CSU's hits came in bunches. Three singles in the fourth led to the Bucs' first run. Chase Shelton, Nick Berry, and Andrew WIdell lined up three-straight base hits and CSU scored its first run on a bases-loaded walk to Zack Hagaman to make it 1-0.

The Bucs added to their lead in the fifth as Tomasovich led off with a single back up the box and Bobby Ison followed a CCU error with a single to load the bases. Shelton would draw the Bucs' second RBI walk of the game and Berry grounded out to score a run to push the lead to 3-0.

Berry finished 2-for-4 for CSU, while Tyler Chadwick was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Coastal's attack.

The two teams play a series finale and the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m.
