GREENVILLE, S.C. – Charleston Southern shot a team 305 in Sunday's final round to finish ninth at the 2014 Furman Intercollegiate, played the at Furman University Course.

The Buccaneers were the top Big South team in the event, finishing at 890, eleven strokes ahead of Gardner-Webb. Winthrop and Presbyterian were also in the field. CSU finished three strokes behind Wofford and four back of Furman after beginning the day in fifth.

Georgia State and No. 10 Virginia Tech tied at 9-under and were co-champions of the event. No. 36 Kennesaw State was third at 2-under. VT's Trevor Cone won the tournament as an individual at 11-under par.

Senior David Denlinger started the day in contention, but finished 18th after a 79 (+7) in his final round. The senior calmed down with two birdies on the back nine after a slow start, but couldn't close in on the tournament leaders.

Fellow-senior Ross Thomson rode a 34 (-2) on the front nine to a 74 (+2). He eagled the sixth hole and birdied No. 2 in the Bucs' best round of the day.

Freshman Austin James, who played as an individual, finished with a 77 (+5) and tied for 26th. He played his final six holes at 2-under.

Junior Will Pieper tied for 42nd with a 76 (+4) that included four birdies. Pieper was 1-over on the back nine to finish the tournament solidly.

Junior Jarrett Swan had three birdies in his round and finished with a 77 (+5).

Freshman Daniel Gregory started strong and was 1-under through eight holes, but shot a 78 (+6) and couldn't overcome six bogeys on the back nine.

CSU returns to action next weekend (April 7-8) at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Miss.
