MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston scored eight runs in the second inning to swing  past Charleston Southern in midweek action, 12-5, on Tuesday night at Patriots Point. 

Blake Butler hit a three-run home run off of CSU starter Dylan Lee (L, 1-3) to fuel the Cougars' big inning. Bradley Jones added a two-run double to add to the damage for CofC. 

Robbie Streett hit a three-run, pinch it home run in the ninth for the Buccaneers. CSU (22-26) had 13 hits, but only three for extra bases. 

CSU's Sly Edwards had a career-high three hits, going 3-for-5. Chase Shelton added a 2-for-4 night with a pair of RBI singles. Brian Dye and Nate Blanchard both extended their hitting streaks. Dye's streak is now at 20 games, followed by Blanchard at 19. 

CofC scored in its final three at-bats to keep distance between itself and the Bucs. Morgan Phillips was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jones added a 2-for-2 night with a two-run home run off of Alex Ministeri. 

Reliever Kyle Dyson had the best night for the Bucs, working three scoreless innings.

CSU opens a three-game Big South series on Thursday night at CSU Ballpark. First pitch of the opener is at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
