CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern suffered their first home defeat in nearly three years as the Buccaneers fell to No. 18 Tulsa on Monday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex, 6-1.
Nicolin Luecke gave CSU (7-1) their lone point of the match with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 win on court no. 1 as the Buccaneers fought against one of the top programs in the nation in Tulsa (14-2).
The loss snaps CSU's home winning streak at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex at 21 straight matches dating back to the end of the 2013 season.
CSU fell in all three doubles matches and dropped five of the six singles matches, but battled their way throughout the match in challenging the Golden Hurricane.
Luecke recorded her seventh straight singles win on the afternoon and fourth straight set win in a row to put the Bucs on the board and keep the match alive at 3-1 with her victory over Saana Saarteinen.
CSU's Brianna Thompson won the first set in her match on court no. 3, 6-3, but fell to Rongrong Leenabanchong in the third set tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-0 (10-0).
Sophie Cloessner and Kimberley Koerner also gave their opponents all they could handle on courts 2 and 5. Cloessner rallied from a 6-1 first set loss to push Ksenia Laskutova in the second set before falling short, 6-4.
Koerner also rallied back from a first set loss against Renata Kuricova on court no. 5, 6-3, before falling late in the second set, 7-5.
Gabriela Srowdowski fell on court no. 4 against Marcelina Cichon, 6-1, 6-1, while Valeria Koussenkova was unable to top Martha Matoula on court no. 6, 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play to open the match, Tulsa swept all three courts to take the opening point.
Leenabanchong and Matoula topped Thompson and Koerner on court no. 2, 6-1, while Laskutova and Kuricova took the 6-4 win on court no. 1 to seal the point. Saarteinen and Mathitha Dadireddy completed the Tulsa sweep with the 6-2 win over Srodowski and Cloessner on court no. 3.
