BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charleston Southern picked up their fourth Big South Conference win on Monday afternoon at the James R. Nisbet Tennis Center, topping Campbell, 6-1.
The Bucs swept all three doubles courts and took five of the six singles matches on the afternoon as CSU improved to 9-2 overall on the season. Campbell falls to 8-6, 2-3 in Big South play with the loss.
Kimberley Koerner, Valeria Koussenkova, Gabriela Srodowski, Sophie Cloessner and Brianna Thompson all won singles matches for CSU's points on the afternoon. The strong effort in singles matches led the Buccaneers past the Camels for their fourth Big South win of the season.
Koussenkova and Cloessner opened play with a 6-2 win over Campbell's Isabel Boada and Georgina Segarra on court no.2. Nicolin Luecke and Thompson defeated Campbell's Iri Karangozishvili and Nina Asanin on court no. 1, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for the Bucs.
CSU received the third doubles win from Annika Wagner and Koerner defeating Ewa Telenga and Maud Mrad on court no. 3, 7-5.
Koerner gave the Bucs their first singles point with her 6-4, 6-0, win over Claire Bedi on court no. 5. Koussenkova followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-4 straight sets win over Ewa Telenga on court no. 6 to give the Bucs the 3-0 lead.
Campbell took their lone point of the match on court no. 1 where Iri Karangozishivili topped CSU's Nicolin Luecke, 6-3, 6-4.
Srodowski defeated Isabel Boada, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) on court no. 4 to seal the match for the Bucs. Cloessner defeated Segarra, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 10-7 on court no. 2 in a tough battle, while Thompson also won in the third set over Mrad on court no. 3, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6, (7-2).
The Bucs will be back in action at Winthrop University at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
