Bucs top Flames in Big South play, 4-3

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Nicolin Luecke, Sophie Cloessner and Valeria Koussenkova all won singles matches as Charleston Southern topped visiting Liberty on Saturday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex, 4-3.
With the Bucs leading 1-0 following doubles play, Liberty took the first two points in singles action with Belen Rivera topping CSU's Gabriela Srodowski on court no. 4, 7-5, 6-1, and Mariely Hassey topping CSU's Kimberley Koerner on court no. 5, 7-5, 7-5.
Koussenkova rallied the Bucs back with a three-set win on court no. 6 to even the match at 2-2. Koussenkova dropped the first set to Valerie Thong, 2-6, but took the final two frames 6-0, 6-2 to take the match.
The momentum carried CSU over to court no. 2, where Cloessner topped Liberty's Anna Dollar in a tough straight set match. Cloessner battled through the first set, winning, 7-6, and then took the second set, 7-5, to give the Bucs the 3-2 advantage.
Luecke put the Bucs over the top on court no. 1 with a three-set win over Maria Khval. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Luecke rallied back over the final two frames winning 6-3, 6-3, to seal the Bucs win.
Evangeline Crist took the final point of the match for the Flames on court no. 3, topping CSU's Brianna Thompson in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.
The Buccaneers improve to 10-4, 5-2 in Big South play with the win, while Liberty falls to 11-9, 7-1 with the loss.
CSU took the opening point of the match behind strong doubles play as the duos of Luecke/Thompson and Koussenkova/Cloessner won on courts 1 and 3.
Luecke/Thompson defeated Liberty's Thong/Crist on court no. 1, 6-1, while Koussenkova/Cloessner topped Liberty's Panchenko/Anderson on court no. 3, 6-3.
The Flames took the match on court no. 2 with Khval/Dollar topping Srodowski/Koerner.
Charleston Southern hits the road as the Bucs are back in action tomorrow afternoon in Boiling Springs, N.C. against Gardner-Webb. First serve between the Big South opponents is set for 2 p.m.
