CSU names Todd Selders as Director of Golf

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern University Athletic Director Hank Small announced the hiring of Todd Selders as Director of Golf and head men's golf coach on Monday. Selders comes to CSU with more than 20 years of experience as a college and prep golf coach with stops at Iowa, North Carolina State, Coastal Carolina, SMU and Oklahoma.

Selders spent the 2015-16 season as the men's and women's head golf coach at Western Texas College. He will coach the Bucs' men's team and oversee all operations for the men's and women's programs.

"I would like to thank Hank Small, Dr. Hunter, the hiring committee, coaches and my references for this awesome opportunity," Selders said. "I am really looking forward to continuing and building on what Coach Mike Wilson has done at CSU. I was able to meet some of the players on my visit and I can't wait to get started as their coach."

The highlight of Selders' extensive resume is a ten-year stint as head women's golf coach at Southern Methodist University (2000-10). Selders' SMU teams advanced to NCAA regional play in four straight seasons (2004-08). His team placed second in the 2006 Conference USA Championship. Selders was a two-time coach of the year at SMU, earning Conference USA honors in 2006 and WAC honors in 2004.

While at SMU, Selders mentored several of his players to prestigious individual accolades. One player qualified for the NCAA National Championship and another player qualified for the U.S. Women`s Open in 2004.

"Coach Selders has a lot of successful experience coaching and recruiting men's and women's college golfers," Small said. "We know that our athletes will benefit from that experience. We welcome him to our CSU family."

Prior to his time at Western Texas College, Selders was an assistant women's golf coach at Iowa (2014-15) and N.C. State (2011-13).N.C. State placed second in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in 2013 and advanced to NCAA regional play. The Wolfpack won three invitational tournament titles in 2012 on their way to placing 13th at the NCAA Championships. Selders was also instrumental in helping one player achieve All-American status.

Selders was the associate head coach for the men's golf program at Coastal Carolina in 2011 following his stint at SMU. He served as assistant men's golf coach at Oklahoma from 1997-2000.

Before joining the college coaching ranks, Selders taught and coached in the Mansfield Independent School District in Mansfield, Texas. He was the District Coach of the Year on three occasions (1993-95) and served as vice-president of the Texas Golf Coaches Association from 1996-98.

In ten seasons with MISD, his teams accounted for numerous invitational wins, 15 district titles, a regional championship and a pair of top-five finishes at the UIL 5A State Championship. Selders was an assistant professional and junior program coordinator at Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield,TX. (1989-94).

He has assisted with summer junior golf camps at the Hank Haney Golf Ranch in McKinney, Texas since 2000. Selders has also caddied on the Symetra Tour for one of his former players.

Selders, a native of Edmond, Okla., earned his bachelor's degree from Central State University in Edmond, Okla., where he was a four-year member of the golf team and a member of the Dean's Honor Roll. He later earned his master's degree from SMU.
