Bucs Unable to Complete Comeback in Finale with Campbell

Box Score

Charleston, S.C. - Despite rallying for four runs in the eighth inning, Charleston Southern couldn't finish the comeback as they dropped the final game of their weekend series with Campbell by a score of 6-5 on Sunday.

Trailing 6-1 in the eighth inning, Josh Asbill and Jason Miller combined for back-to-back singles with one out. Mike Sconzo sent a line drive down the left field line for a double that scored both baserunners and made it a 6-3 game. Two batters later, Derek Horton homered over the left field scoreboard for the second time in two days to score Sconzo and bring the Bucs within one. The next four batters went down in order as the Bucs fell one run short.

CSU scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Sconzo lead off with a walk and later advanced to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Ryan Rizk grounded out to shortstop to allow him to score and give the Bucs a 1-0 lead.

Campbell tied the game in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Jason Miller fielded a grounder at second base and quickly thew home for the force out at the plate. Catcher Christian Maggio maintained control long enough to get the out at the plate, but lost the ball during the baserunners' slide. The ball rolled to the backstop and allowed the Campbell runner from second to score.

A home run and a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning gave Campbell the lead. They later added three runs on two errors in the eighth.
