CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern concludes a two-game homestand on Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against Gardner-Webb at the CSU Soccer Field.
The Buccaneers (3-6-2 overall) are in need of a victory after starting Big South play with losses to Winthrop and Presbyterian and ties against High Point and Longwood. Gardner-Webb is 3-8-1 but has won two of its three conference matches, defeating Winthrop and Hampton before losing to Campbell.
Zari Hayes scored her third goal of the season on Wednesday against Winthrop to move into a tie for the team lead with
Kylie Doster.
Bri Robinson assisted on the Hayes goal to give her four on the year, tied for third in the Big South.
Jazmin Gonzalez has 54 saves and 145 in her career, just seven away from passing Liz-Amanda Brown for eighth in school history. She owns a 1.43 goals against average for the season.
Stina Kleppe is one of the top offensive players in the Big South, leading the conference with seven goals, 18 points and 59 shots. She is also tied for third in assists along with teammate Maddie Turlington with four. Turlington is also tied for seventh with 10 points, and Jada Newton is tied for sixth with four goals.
Paula Suarez Is has started eight games in goal and has 38 saves and a 2.10 GAA. Katelyn Kellogg has started four matches and has 39 saves along with a 2.26 GAA.
The all-time series is even at 6-6-2, but Gardner-Webb has won twice with one tie over the past three years including a 2-1 win in Boiling Springs, N.C., last October.
