HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Charleston Southern men's basketball team saw their win streak come to an end Monday night as James Madison hit 12 treys for the 81-60 win.
Dontrell Shuler paced the Charleston Southern (4-6) offense scoring 20 points in the loss while Darius Banks had 17 to pace JMU (6-4).
The home Dukes used an early 15-2 run after the Bucs grabbed an early lead and would hold the rest of the way.
The loss ended CSU's perfect December start and three-game win streak dating back to their win over Delaware State in the Maui on the Mainlands tournament.
How It Happened
- Duncan LeXander splashed home a corner three to start the contest, but a quick run of their own gave James Madison the early lead just a few moments in.
- Dontrell Shuler drew seven JMU fouls in the first half alone getting to the free throw line early and often, helping cut the Dukes' momentum.
- Fleming, who entered second in rebounding among the Big South, paced the Bucs again in the opening 20 minutes with four boards to go along with his six points and chase-down block.
- CSU was able to cut the margin to just nine with under three minutes in the first half, but the Dukes knocked down two treys to push the lead back to 15 at the break.
- Foul trouble early in the second half for the Bucs gave the Dukes some momentum and chances to extend their margin, but CSU would hang around.
- Deontaye Buskey paced the Buccaneer attack in the second half scoring all eight of his points helping CSU stick around in striking distance.
- Shuler added 14 in the second half for a game-high 20 – his fourth 20-point effort on the season.
- A 12-2 James Madison run over a five-minute span halfway through the second half would give the Dukes their largest lead of the night before hanging on for the win.
