CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern men's basketball begins their 18-game Big South schedule Thursday night as they welcome USC Upstate to Buccaneer Field House before heading to Hampton Saturday night.
CSU swept the Spartans last season taking both regular season matchups as well as their Big South Championships First Round affair in Charleston on their way to a Big South semifinals run. The Bucs and Pirates also squared off in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) after just one regular season meeting last season.
The Bucs own a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series over USC Upstate after taking all three matchups last season while Hampton leads the head-to-head matchup 3-0 so far. CSU has been one of the hottest teams in the Big South entering league play going 4-1 in December including a win at Missouri while taking five of their final six contests dating back to a win over Delaware State Nov. 24 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Charleston Southern also enters Big South play tied for the second-most wins in nonconference play along with UNC Asheville and Winthrop. Despite the tough November slate with trips to Dayton and Michigan State, the Bucs enter conference play as one of just three teams in the league at .500 or better.
