CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern plays the second of a four-game homestand on Friday when the Bucs host Navy in a 4 p.m. match at the CSU Soccer Field.
CSU is 2-0 with wins over Jacksonville and Wofford, the first time the Bucs have captured their opening two games since winning four straight to start the 2009 campaign. Navy split a pair of 1-0 decisions last weekend, defeating Buffalo and losing to LSU in double overtime.
The game is the third in the all-time series. CSU took a 2-1 win in Annapolis, Md., in 2010, and Navy returned the favor with a 1-0 victory in Charleston the following year.
Kylie Doster scored goals in both CSU games and was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week.
Kat Klingensmith and
Elise Borys also scored against the Dolphins, and
Zari Hayes and
Grace Gompers had their first career goals against the Terriers.
Jazmin Gonzalez has not had much work in goal, facing only 10 shots and needing to make only three saves. The fifth-year senior has 94 career saves, good for 11th in school history.
Cadie Higginson provided Navy with its goal on a penalty kick in the win over Buffalo, and the Midshipmen outshot LSU, 21-5, but could not find the back of the net. Navy is coming off an 11-6-3 season including a 7-2 mark in the Patriot League.
Baseley McClaskey led the Mids in scoring last year with seven goals and nine assists for 23 points, ranking 21st in the nation in assists after placing 22nd in the same category with nine in 2017. Sydney Fortson posted an 0.85 goals against average and had eight shutouts a year ago.Â
Following Friday's game, the Bucs remain home for contests against North Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. and College of Charleston next Thursday at 4 p.m.Â
