CHARLESTON, S.C. – The annual crosstown battle for the Silver Cup takes place on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when Charleston Southern hosts College of Charleston at the CSU Soccer Field.
The game continues the longest-running series in Buccaneer history with the teams having met every season since the CSU program began in 1993. Wednesday marks the 28th contest in the all-time series and comes with both teams owning records of 3-3.
CSU is coming off a 3-1 win over Alabama State on Sunday. The Bucs trailed 1-0 before freshmen
Grace Harr and
Elise Borys scored less than a minute apart late in the first half, and
Mason Pinkerton added an insurance goal in the 80th minute.
Borys' goal was her second of the season, moving her into a tie for the team lead with
Kylie Doster and
Zari Hayes.
Dakota Fiedler assisted on the Harr goal for a team-best two on the year.
Jazmin Gonzalez made two saves to give her 111 in her career, the 10th-highest mark in school history.
Gonzalez ranks second in the Big South with a goals against average of 1.00.
The Cougars split two games at the UNCW Battle of the Beaches, defeating Middle Tennessee State and losing 1-0 to Virginia Tech. Eight different players have scored goals, with Hannah Farmer leading the way with two. Meredith Holton and Maggie Berlin have combined for a 1.17 GAA.
Following Wednesday's game, the Bucs open Big South play on Saturday at High Point.
