Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Buccaneer softball team remains undefeated in the Holy City Showdown after defeating Coppin State this afternoon.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 9, COPPIN STATE 4
BOTTOM OF THE FIRST
- Coppin State got on base with a single to right field before drawing a walk. With a pass ball, both runners advanced to second and third with one out.
- Holly Clark battled back to strand both runners and end the inning with two strikeouts.
TOP OF THE SECOND
- Rhiana Hubbard led things off with a double to right center field, her first of the year.
- Hubbard would be knocked in after Summer Moore laced a shot to the left-field wall for a stand-up double of her own.
BOTTOM OF THE SECOND
- The Eagles evened things out after an infield error plated a run.
TOP OF THE THIRD
- Norris drew a walk and Brown got on base after an error by the Eagle third baseman.
- Mallory Kasinger drove in her sixth RBI of the year with a single to left center.
- A pair of wild pitches allowed two more runs to cross home to claim a 4-1 lead after three and a half.
TOP OF THE FOURTH
- Brewington singled to third base and then stole second. Coppin State was then called for interference as Brewington tried to go to third.
- A wild pitch would allow the Bucs to add one to their lead.
TOP OF THE SIXTH
- Madison Koger led things off with a walk before Emily Crosby hit a shot back up the middle to put two on with no outs.
- Brewington moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Norris drove in Koger with a sacrifice fly to left field extending the lead to back to four.
BOTTOM OF THE SIXTH
- Coppin State picked up a pair of runs after rallying for three hits.
- Annah Junge entered the game to attempt the save.
TOP OF THE SEVENTH
- Kasinger drew a walk and Hubbard followed it up with an absolute bomb off the scoreboard to add a pair of insurance runs for the Bucs.
- Cribb reached base after beating out an infield single to the second baseman and would be brought in by Emily Crosby who singled to left field.
Holly Clark improves to 2-0 on the year and
Annah Junge picks up her first save of the year.
The Bucs close out the tournament with a game against Chattanooga on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
