Deogracias leads three Bucs in top-10 as CSU takes second at season-opening Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Paced by a trio of top-10 finishes, the Charleston Southern men's cross country team finished second overall at the season-opening CSU Invitational 8K held on the campus of Charleston Southern University on Saturday afternoon.

Alan Deogracias set a new career-mark to pace the Buccaneers in the 2021 season-opening race as the sophomore crossed the line fifth overall with a time of 24:30.0. He shaved nearly a full minute off his previous eight-kilometer record set back at the 2019 Louisville Classic (25:19.2).

Teammate Trevor Dominy also kept pace with the lead pack throughout a majority of the race to finish seventh in the field with a time of 24:42.1. His time was also a new career-low shattering his previous mark of 26:11.2 set back at the S.C. State Bulldog Duels in 2016.

Jaden Kingsley was the third Buc across the line and 10th overall in the field with a time of 24:51.8 – nearly a full-minute better than his previous mark set last season at the Louisville Classic (25:45.4).

Freshmen Gavin Kuhlenbeck and Micah Gilpatrick crossed the line in 12th and 13th overall to round out CSU's scorers in the event. The duo crossed the finish line in 25:06.3 and 25:08.1 respectively to secure the second-place team finish for the Bucs.
Jacob Jones and Andrew Akright finished back-to-back for the Bucs in 17th and 18th overall in the field. Jones crossed the line in 25:30.4, while Akright was four seconds back with 25:34.7.

Matt Inman narrowly missed out on the top-20 finish with a tie of 25:56.2 to place him 22nd in the field. Alex Zangara (27th), Benjamin Eddy (28th), and Timothy Depue (30th) also added top-30 finishes for the Bucs.

Evan Crawford rounded out the group on the course for Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Jim Stintzi with a time of 26:53.3.

North Florida (22) took the team title behind overall individual champion Nathan Jubran (24:15.5). The Bucs (47), Liberty (56), and Gardner-Webb (120) rounded out the team standings on the course.
