Bucs finish fifth at the 51st Annual Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Charleston Southern closed out the 51st Annual Furman Intercollegiate in fifth-place overall as the Buccaneers wrapped up the three-day, three-round event at the Furman Golf Course.
 
The Bucs (+17) carded a final round 288 (+4) as CSU continued to make strides throughout the final two days of the event, but it was not enough to catch up with the leaders in their next-to-last event prior to the Big South Championships.
 
Jake Carter (+1) finished in a four-way tie for seventh overall in the field after carding a final round 72 (+1). The graduate student birdied the first and second holes for the third consecutive round and added a birdie on the sixth but struggled over the back-nine to close out the tournament with a 214 (+1) total score.
 
Alan Smith and Ben Carroll carded the low-rounds for the Bucs today with the duo turning in even-par 71s. 
 
Smith's round was his lowest of the weekend as he posted four birdies, including three over the front five holes, as he finished tied for 52nd in the field with a 223 (+10). 
 
Carroll's round equaled his second-round score as the sophomore carded five birdies over the 18-hole round, but a double-bogey on 12 left him with a tournament score 217 (+4) to finish in sole possession of 21st in the tournament field.
 
Parker Jones' final score 220 (+7) put him tied for 29th overall in the field as he wrapped up Sunday's final round with a 74 (+3). Jones birdied the third and the 13th holes on the day.
 
Tyler Beeck also closed out the tournament with a final tally 221 (+8) to finish tied for 38th. Beeck's final round 74 (+3) was highlighted on birdies on the eighth and 11th holes.
 
News & Notes
  • Charleston Southern turned in the lowest team score on Par-4s in the tournament as the Bucs finished +17 with a 4.10 score average on the holes, beating out Furman (+24) and Chattanooga (+24) by seven strokes.
  • CSU posted the fifth-most birdies in the tournament with 44 over the three-day event.
  • The Bucs topped High Point (+22) and Presbyterian (+45) among the Big South teams in the field. 
Up Next
The Bucs will be back on the course in two weeks April 12th and 13th at the Wofford Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of Spartanburg. It's the final tune-up for the Bucs prior to the Big South Championships which will take place a week later at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
