SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Charleston Southern tied with tournament champion Georgia State for the low round of the day as the Buccaneers wrapped up the Wofford Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Bucs finished fifth overall in the team standings in their final tune-up prior to next week's Big South Championships.
The Bucs (+6) turned in a low-round 284 to tie for the low team round of the day as CSU utilized strong performances from
Ben Carroll,
Alan Smith,
Jake Carter, and
Tyler Beeck. Carroll (-4) turned in his lowest round of his collegiate career to pace the Bucs, while Smith, Carter, and Beeck were all even through the 18-hole round as the team carded a 284 (-4).
Carroll (-1) turned in a top-10 performance overall in the tournament as the freshman finished ninth overall in the field following his 68 (-4) on the final day. The Blacksburg, Va. native improved his position by 17 positions as he turned in birdies on the fifth and seventh holes, before finding his groove late in the round. Carroll posted four birdies over the final five holes to finishing four-under on the day and finish tied for ninth in the field.
Carter (+4) and Beeck (+4) both finished with rounds of even par to tie for 30th overall in the field on the tournament. Carter started off strong in his five-birdie round, while Beeck recorded his first eagle of the weekend on the fifth hole to highlight his round.
Smith's (+10) final-round 72 (Even) put him tied for 52nd overall in the field. The junior golfer turned in a three-round score 226 highlighted by birdies on three of his last five holes to wrap up the tournament.
Parker Jones (+7) finished with a final-round 75 (+3) to finish tied for 42nd overall in the field. Jones posted a trio of birdies over the opening nine holes before fading down the stretch.
Frederick Topgaard (+26) finished 77th overall in the field in his first action of the 2021 spring season. The freshman posted a final-round 80 (+8) to round out the day.
