NINETY SIX, S.C. - Charleston Southern saw its 2021 spring season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Buccaneers finished fifth overall in the field at the 2021 Big South Men's Golf Championships.
 
The Bucs (+1) turned in a final round 290 (+6) to finish one stroke back from advancing to Wednesday's match play event. CSU was paced by Alan Smith's 71 (Even), while Ben Carroll 72 (+1) and Jake Carter (73, +2) also turned in low rounds for the Bucs. Tyler Beeck (74, +3) turned in the final scoring round on the final day at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.

Radford (-4), Campbell (-4), and Longwood (-4) tied for first place in the stroke play portion of the 2021 Big South Championships. Gardner-Webb (Even) was the fourth team to advance to the match-play portion that will take place on Wednesday.

Carter posted a top-10 finish in the individual standings as the graduate student turned in a three-round score 213 (Even) to finish tied for ninth. The Aiken, S.C. native posted birdies on the fifth and 16th holes to wrap up his final round of the week.

Smith (+3), Carroll (+3), and Beeck (+3) finished tied for 18th overall in the field to wrap up the week.

Smith made the biggest strides over the final day for the Bucs moving up seven positions following his final-round 71 (Even). The junior posted a trio of birdies to highlight his final round. Carroll also moved up three spots following his final-round 72 (+1) after posting birdies on the fifth, eighth, and 16th. Beeck's final-round 74 (+3) featured birdies on the fifth and 16th holes.

Parker Jones rounded out the group for head coach Jason Payne on the day with a final-round 80 (+9) that left him in a tie for 28th in the field (218, +5). Jones birdied the 10th and 14th holes but was unable to overcome four double-bogeys on the round.
