Bucs fall to Florida A&M in weekend finale

MOBILE, Ala. – Charleston Southern wrapped up play at the South Alabama Invitational Saturday morning, falling to Florida A&M in three sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-23) at the Jag Gym.

Peyton Thompson led the Bucs with 10 kills and added seven digs, while Indigo Young had three blocks. Ashleigh Holweger had 10 digs CSU, while Emma Minnick and Abigail Breeden combined for 17 assists. CSU had seven blocks and five aces as a team.

Florida A&M took four of the first five points to begin the match and never looked back in the opening set, as CSU never got closer than a three-point deficit in the set. The Bucs actually had more kills and a higher hitting percentage than the Rattlers in the second set, but an early five-point deficit proved to be insurmountable in the end. CSU had a spirited comeback attempt in the final set thwarted when FAMU took the final two points to break a 23-all deadlock and clinch the match.

News and Notes
  • CSU's five service aces came from five different players, including one from Madison Shaw, who was making her Buccaneer debut.
  • Peyton Thompson's 10-kill performance was her 13th match with 10 or more kills in 17 appearances at CSU.
  • CSU was swept in back-to-back matches for the first time since the 2019 season.
  • Kaileigh Ammons, Gabby Naniseni and Indigo Young each had multiple blocks in the loss, with Young's three blocks being the most by a CSU player in any match this weekend.
