LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Charleston Southern Cross Country teams are set for the NCAA Southeast regional, which will take place in Louisville this year at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
The Men's team captured their third straight Big South Championship, scoring just 25 points. Individual champion Micah Gilpatric will lead the men into a competitive southeast regional that includes five teams ranked in the USTFCCCA national top 30. Gilpatric finished 32nd in the 2021 race and helped the Bucs take eighth in the team standings.
The Women were the runner-up at the 2022 Big South Championship, the best finish in program history. Sarah McCartney and Keerstin Augustin crossed the line in seventh and eighth place, respectively, to lead the Bucs in the conference championships. The Southeast regional features top-ranked NC State along with three other nationally ranked teams. In last year's regional, Anne Akagi had the best result of this year's returning runners, taking 90th with a time of 22:14.Â
The women's 6k begins at 11 a.m., while the men's 10k starts at noon. The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
