Bucs conclude play at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Charleston Southern women's golf wrapped up tournament play at the Briar's Creek Invitational Tuesday with Libby Singleton finishing with her best collegiate performance since joining the Buccaneers prior to this season.

SINGLETON AT HER BEST
The first-year Bucs player put together her best scores since donning the blue and gold Tuesday, making a large climb up the leaderboard after round two with an Even-par 72 before notching a 3-over par 75 on her way to an overall 9-over par 225 to tie for 36th.

In the final round, she recorded a pair of birdies, on the par-3, 150-yard No. 17 and par-5, 444-yard No. 7 while adding 12 pars, including three stretches of three-in-row. The spans happened as she started the last-18 holes, from No. 14 through No. 16, as she made the turn from No. 18 through No. 2 and again as she made the second turn, from No. 8 through No. 10.

FRIBERG POSTS BEST SCORE TUESDAY
Isabell Friberg registered her lowest round of the tournament Tuesday, tallying a 4-over par 76. She played Even on 14 holes with four bogies. She was Even par through her first-four holes, from No. 13 through No. 16 and then recovered after her first bogey on No. 17 with her longest run of consecutive pars, starting on No. 18 and taking it through No. 4.

The turnaround came on the heels of a 9-over par 81, as she joined the rest of the field in wrapping up the second round early Tuesday morning.

WHITEHOUSE GOES LOW IN SECOND
The early-morning conclusion of the second-18 holes benefited Erica Whitehouse, who turned in a 7-over par 79. She had one birdie, on the par-4, 353-yard No. 9, during her second time seeing the course.

In the third round later Tuesday, she managed four-straight pars from No. 14 through No. 18, as well as two, three-hole stretches on the front nine, from No. 2 through No. 4 and No. 6 through No. 8 on her way to an overall 28-over par 244 in the tournament.

THORNE SPLITS PARS EVENLY
Six pars during the final round highlighted the scorecard of Kathryn Thorne, the last Buccaneers player in the event. She opened the last-18 holes with one on No. 13 before adding two more on No. 16 and No. 18 before making the turn. Her front nine featured three-consecutive pars, from No. 2 through No. 4, on her way to a 44-over 260.

ALL INDIVIDUALS
Each of the four Charleston Southern participants competed as individuals in the event after late scratches to the lineup forced the Bucs to make adjustments just prior to the start of the tournament Monday.

UP NEXT
CSU will look to get its full lineup back on the course next week as it travels to Kennesaw, Georgia, next Monday and Tuesday for the Pinetree Women's Collegiate, an event at the Pinetree Country Club play hosted by Kennesaw State.
