Bucs head to Gardner-Webb to continue Big South campaign

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball will hit the road for the first time in league play, this weekend, as it travels to Boiling Springs, North Carolina, for a three-game series at Gardner-Webb. The two Big South foes will square off in a single game at 6 p.m. Friday before Saturday's doubleheader starts at Noon with all three contests picked up by ESPN+.

BUILDING ON THE FIRST
The Buccaneers take a 10-16 overall and 2-4 conference mark into the weekend, having claimed a win in each first game of the two league series, at home against Campbell and Longwood. The blue and gold will be looking to gain the upper-hand in a league series for the first time by taking two or more victories over the weekend.

STRONG PITCHING
Annah Junge has turned in a pair of solid starts over the weekend, hurling 14.0 innings in the circle and surrendering just one run with nine strikeouts. She went the distance in the first game of the doubleheader Saturday against the Lancers, striking out five and facing just six over the minimum. She induced nine fly outs and five groundouts in her seventh victory of the spring.

She is the current Bucs season leader with a 2.02 ERA, .282 opposing batting average and 55 strikeouts in 83.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING GWU
Gardner-Webb is 11-12 overall and 3-3 in league play entering the weekend, having last knocked off Western Carolina at home Wednesday, 6-2, under first-year head coach Bailey Wigness. The Runnin' Bulldogs earned 2-of-3 triumphs against Hampton in their first league series before picking up a victory in the middle game of last weekend's set at North Carolina A&T.

SERIES HISTORY
CSU owns 20 wins among the all-time meetings against the Gardner-Webb, including taking the series last spring in the Holy City by capturing two victories in the three games. The two programs first met in a neutral-site contest, in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1992, with the Buccaneers garnering a 3-0 triumph.
