CHARLESTON, S.C. – Recent tournament champion Charleston Southern men's golf will close regular-season play Monday and Tuesday, as it heads to the Upstate for the Wofford Intercollegiate at The Country Club of Spartanburg. It will be the Bucs' first action since claiming the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate title in Pawleys Island March 30.
TOURNAMENT CROWN
The Buccaneers captured their first tournament championship since the 2021 Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate in Hilton Head with the first-place finish out of nine schools. Four CSU individuals garnered Top-15 results, including Alan Smith tying for third with a 5-under par 70-72-69—211, his best event since donning the blue and gold.
TARVER GETS NOTICED
Another strong individual in the field was Griffin Tarver, who was recognized as the Big South Co-Freshman of the Week after earning a share of 13th-place with a 76-77-66—219 (+3). His 66 is a career low, tying for the best round of any Bucs player this season, and one of just eight overall for the squad in the 60s in 2021-22. He climbed 17 spots between the second and third rounds, the biggest jump of any individual in the tournament.
SIX STRAIGHT
This week's event marks the sixth-straight year in which Charleston Southern will participate in the Wofford-hosted tournament, either called the Wofford Invitational or now the Wofford Intercollegiate, with the exception of 2020 when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year's fifth-place result was the best of that stretch for the Bucs.
