CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball will play its final-two home non-conference games Tuesday when it plays host to a doubleheader with in-state foe Furman on ESPN+. First pitch at the CSU Softball Complex is slated for 4 p.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
CLOSING IN ON THE HOME FINALE
Just three dates and five games remain this spring on the Buccaneers' home field, including Tuesday's doubleheader. The only other times in which the Bucs will play in front of their home crowd will be April 22-23 when they play host to North Carolina A&T in Big South action.
THREE TIMES THREE
Charleston Southern enters the two-game set after dropping the Big South series over the weekend at Winthrop, falling to 17-21 on the campaign. However, the majority of the CSU offense came on three, three-run home runs, including two in Saturday's second game of the doubleheader.
Lexi Markle and
Raleigh Lewis powered the long ball to then even the series in the only triumph against the Eagles before
Madison Koger added one of her own in Sunday's finale. Lewis and Koger joined
SeaEnna Satcher atop the team leaderboard with six round trippers in 2022.
SUCCESS RATE STRONG
The Buccaneers have continued to churn out a solid stolen base percentage, swiping 80.0 percent of their attempts so far. CSU is 20-of-25, including a team-high 13 by
Ashley Meckley.
Weslin Jones has three, while
Gracie Prince, Markle,
Ashlyn Cribb and
Rhiana Hubbard are each 1-of-1.
SCOUTING FURMAN
The Paladins bring a 13-21 mark into Tuesday's two games, snapping a four-game losing streak by taking the series finale at Mercer over the weekend. Furman's lineup has stayed consistent most of the spring with six players earning 33 or more starts under first-year interim head coach Stacey Johnson-Whitfield.
SERIES HISTORY
Charleston Southern will be looking to break a four-game skid to the Paladins in the series, which dates back to the first meetings in 1992. Despite the proximity of the schools, they have met just four times since 2012, which was the last time CSU earned a triumph by sweeping a three-game series.
