Stay in Lowcountry next for softball with Wednesday doubleheader

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball will make the short trip to Mt. Pleasant and Patriots Point for a pair of contests Wednesday against regional rival College of Charleston. First pitch of the doubleheader between the Bucs and Cougars is set for 5 p.m.

LAST SET OF THE SEASON
Tuesday's doubleheader marks the final midweek games of the regular season for the Buccaneers. Charleston Southern has played nine such contests in 2022, posting a 4-5 record including a sweep over South Carolina State, earning a victory in the lone meeting with Georgia Southern and splitting the Furman series.

LOOKING TO GET BACK TO REGULATION
Each of the last-four games for CSU has not ended in seven innings, as the Bucs will look to conclude a matchup in the regulation Wednesday. The stretch started with a nine-inning contest against Furman last Tuesday in addition to all three games of the Big South series with USC Upstate over the weekend.

ROAD WINS ARE KEY
Although Charleston Southern owns a 19-24 overall record this spring, its most wins since 2018, five of those have come in true road games. That represents the team's highest total since 2019 when that squad earned seven. The 2017 edition of the blue and gold captured the most true road triumphs in the last decade with 10.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
College of Charleston has lost two straight entering the weekend, dropping its season ledger to 9-30. Two of those victories have come in the last week – at Winthrop and a league triumph over James Madison by a combined 11-2 tally.

LONG HISTORY
The two programs not surprisingly have played several times over the years, starting with five games in 1993 – two home for each squad and a neutral-site clash in Greenville. Last spring's contests at the CSU Softball Complex were a split with the Buccaneers tallying a 6-4 win in the finale.
