Bucs Begin Big South Title Repeat Quest with UNC Asheville Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern begins its Big South repeat title quest Friday morning with a match against fourth-seeded UNC Asheville in the 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Women's Tennis Championships semifinals round. Friday's match with the Bulldogs marks just the second-straight time Charleston Southern will be the No. 1 seed in the championships after raising the trophy a season ago.

All-time Charleston Southern is 22-28 in the Big South Championships with 10 appearances in the title match. The Bucs hold a 39-3 mark against the remaining 2022 field (UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb) with a 23-2 advantage over the Bulldogs, having won back-to-back meetings including a 7-0 decision in the final week of the 2022 regular season.

The Buccaneers dominated the regular season in 2022 sweeping to go 8-0 and finish a match and a half ahead of the rest of the league. In their first meeting, Charleston Southern grabbed a 7-0 home decision over the Bulldogs to clinch at least a share of the Regular Season title with just one match remaining.

Thursday afternoon, it was announced by the League Office in Charlotte, N.C. that Charleston Southern women's tennis brought home nine All-Big South accolades headlined by Anca Dumitrescu being named the Big South Coach of the Year for the second season in a row. Dumitrescu's Coach of the Year award headlined nine total recognitions for the undefeated Buccaneers who collected their sixth regular season title and went unblemished in Big South play for the fifth time in school history. Their nine combined All-Conference accolades was good enough for second all-time, trailing only last season's 10.
