CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern softball will look to get back to the win column Wednesday as it plays host to a midweek non-conference doubleheader. The Buccaneers welcome Georgia Southern to the CSU Softball Complex for a pair of contests starting at 4 p.m.
HOMESTAND WRAPS UP
The two games will mark the end of a seven-game home stretch for the Bucs, who have posted a 3-2 record thus far. The span began with a doubleheader sweep over South Carolina State last week before CSU claimed one of three in the Big South series against Presbyterian on the weekend.
NEARLY EVEN AT HOME
Charleston Southern owns a 15-19 overall record heading into the weekend with a near .500 mark in home contests, as it sports a 11-12 ledger on its own field. Perhaps the signature triumph of the campaign happened Feb. 19 when the Bucs topped Virginia 5-2 as part of the CSU Buc Up Tournament. Over one-half of the squad's five league victories have come in the Holy City.
FIVE AT 34
Just five players have played in and started all 34 games to this point in the season. That quintet includes
Weslin Jones,
Madison Koger,
Ashley Meckley,
Gracie Prince and
SeaEnna Satcher.
Taylor Gleason is next with 30 games played, while
Raleigh Lewis and
Lexi Markle have each garnered 25 starts.
SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Eagles are coming off a series-ending win at Appalachian State Sunday, which snapped a four-game skid as they are 9-20 this spring under first-year head coach Sharon Perkins. Perkins, a coaching veteran, also has previous head coaching experience at Georgia Tech (2007-13), leading the Yellow Jackets to six NCAA Tournament appearances.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's games will mark the third-straight season in which the two teams have played, as the Buccaneers will be looking to extend their win streak to three after sweeping last spring's doubleheader in Statesboro, Georgia, April 13. The two programs first met in mid-April, 1988, in a two neutral games in Wilmington, North Carolina.
