CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern plays its first Big South game of the season on Wednesday when the Bucs visit Boiling Springs, N.C., for a 7 p.m. contest against Gardner-Webb at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
CSU will be looking for a fresh start after dropping its last four non-conference games, including a 2-1 loss at home to Wofford on Sunday. The Bucs did snap a three-game scoreless skid in the second minute on a goal by
Fiama Hidalgo off a corner kick from
Erin Rush.
The goal was the first of Hidalgo's collegiate career while Rush pulled into a tie with
Bri Robinson for the team lead with four assists.
Jenea Knight paces the Bucs with four goals, one more than Robinson and
Dakota Fiedler.
Gardner-Webb enters Big South play with a 5-3-2 record. The Runnin' Bulldogs have scored 37 goals, with 21 coming in a win over Allen to mark the highest-scoring game in conference history. Maddie Turlington leads the team with 10 goals followed by Autumn Woodard with six as well as six assists.
Chloe Leffler is the team's No. 1 goalkeeper and has a 1.17 GAA and .844 save percentage in six starts.
Gardner-Webb holds an 8-7-2 lead in the all-time series, but CSU snapped an 0-4-1 stretch with a 1-0 victory last year in Charleston. Robinson assisted on
Emma Ryan's game-winning goal in the 86th minute.
