Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team softball team went 1-1 on Saturday against the Towson Tigers in the first two games of a three-game series. The Bucs (5-5) won the first game by a 2-0 score and lost the second game 12-1.
Game 1
Reigning Big South Pitcher of the Week
Annah Junge was sensational in the first game, throwing her second complete-game shutout of the season and improving to 4-1. In 7.0 innings she gave up 2 hits and struck out 6.
The Bucs scored first in the bottom of the first inning.
Gracie Prince singled and stole a base. Then, with two outs,
Harper Schoeneweis made it a 1-0 ball game with an RBI single.
Charleston Southern added its second run in the bottom of the third inning. A walk by
Ashley Meckley got things started. Two batters later, Schoeneweis did it again. This time, she doubled down the left field line to score Meckley. Schoeneweis went 2 for 2 with a walk and was responsible for the only two runs of the game.
Junge retired 15 in a row at one point in the game, and retired 18 of the final 19 batters of the game.
Game 2
The Bucs were rolling to start things, as RHP
Riley Lauffer did not allow a run for the first 4.2 innings. The Bucs were able to get the first run of the game, scoring in the second inning.
Lacy Johnson started the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Madelyne Lee singled to center, and Johnson scored on a throwing error that allowed Lee to advance to second.
The Tigers (5-4) were quiet until the top of the fifth inning, with two outs, Addie Ferguson hit her first home run of the game to give Towson the lead.
Towson added six more in the top of the sixth inning, sending 10 to the plate and chasing Lauffer out of the game. She finished the day giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4 in 5.1 innings pitched. She gave way to
Maggie Carpenter.
The Tigers added four more in the final inning off of Carpenter, all with two outs. A walk, single and an error allowed for the first two runs to score, and Ferguson hit her second home run of the day with two runners on base to give the Tigers the win 12-1 win.
Carpenter finished the game for the Bucs, going 1.2 innings. She gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and struck out a batter.
