Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team fell twice on Wednesday to the South Carolina Gamecocks. They lost the first game 11-2 and were shut out in game two by a 5-0 score.
Game One
Maggie Carpenter started game one and did not record an out, allowing six of the seven first-inning runs that the Gamecocks scored. USC sent 10 to the plate, as Carpenter walked the first six batters that she faced.
In the second inning,
Raleigh Lewis got the Bucs (17-24, 6-8 in conference) on the board, as she doubled to start the inning and came around to score on an RBI groundout by
Ashlyn Cribb.
The Bucs did not score again until the fifth inning, when
Lexi Markle scored
Lacy Johnson on an RBI double to make it 11-2.
Carpenter did not allow a hit but walked six batters and allowed all of them to score. She gave way to
Annah Junge, who allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in 4.0 innings. Lewis went 2 for 2 with a run scored.
Game Two
Game two was very similar for the Gamecocks, as they carried the momentum into the second contest. The game was 0-0 through the first 4.0 innings, until
Riley Lauffer allowed four runs in the fifth inning and one in the six inning to make it 5-0. The Bucs made two errors in the bottom of the fifth inning. They made three errors overall on the afternoon.
Lauffer went 6.0 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits, walked 4 and struck out 3. She took the loss to fall to 2-15 on the year.
On Deck
The Bucs return home this weekend, as they play host to Presbyterian starting this Friday at 6 p.m.
