Jeff Wedding won the 3K Steeplechase at the Georgia Tech Invitational as part of a strong showing by Charleston Southern over the weekend. The sophomore was a part of several top ten finishes from CSU athletes in the final regular season meet of the season.
Sprints/Hurdles
Shawn Langley Jr. turned in two top ten finishes this weekend placing sixth in 400m (47.65) and ninth in 200m (21.81).
Luciano Custodio also made the top ten with a sixth-place showing in the 400m hurdles at 52.99.
Jumps
Holden Gerth finished fourth in the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.96m.
Jonathan Lorbeer also competed in the long jump. His best mark measured 6.17m.
Throws
Aaron Pierce took second in javelin after his best throw measured 61.83m. In the shot put,
Michael Calhoun took eighth with his best mark of 16.76m.
Distance
Jeff Wedding won the 3K steeplechase with a time of 9:06.50. Wedding's time clocks in as the fourth-fastest in CSU history and the best since 1988.
Sam Waldin finished fourth in the 5K with his personal best time of 14:29.19. It's the eighth-fastest 5K in school history.
Additionally,
Rob Howorth and
Micah Gilpatric took on a different field in the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. Howorth improved his personal best in the 800m to 1:49.66. He's the only running in the Big South to break 1:50 in the 800m and just the second Buccaneer ever to do so. Gilpatric competed in his first 5K of the season and turned in a time of 14:12.85.
