CHARLESTON, S.C. - Early runs hindered the Bucs on Tuesday, as they were beaten by The Citadel Bulldogs 11-3 in the third game of a four-game series.
The Bulldogs (19-19) got things started quickly, as the first five men reached base, including a leadoff home run. That was followed by four-straight hits capped off by an RBI double.
Then, Bucs starter
Devin MacWatters forced a double play to end the inning, but not before five runs came around to score. MacWatters lasted just 1.0+ innings, allowing 6 runs on 5 hits. He gave way to
Jared Restmeyer, who lasted just 0.1 innings, allowing one run.
The Bucs (19-21, 11-7 in conference) made three pitching changes in the second inning, with
Kaleb Hill being the final substitution. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings pitched, as the Bulldogs took a 9-0 lead into the fourth inning.
Chandler Tuupo put the Bucs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with his team-leading sixth home run of the season. He was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the sixth inning by
Kieran Davis, who laced his fourth home run to make it 9-3. Davis finished the night 2 for 2.
The Citadel added two unearned runs in the eight inning to make it 11-3.
Eddie Olsen tied a season high in innings pitched with 4.0 inning, striking out a season-high seven batters.
Zac Robinson pitched a scoreless night, striking out two batters.
Charleston Southern made a total of four errors tonight, and the pitching staff struck out 13 batters.
