Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team started their five-game homestand with a 1-1 record, as they split a doubleheader with the College of Charleston Cougars on Wednesday.
The Cougars (11-20) got the best of the Bucs (13-18) in the first game, winning 4-3. The Bucs were able to get the game two victory with a dominant performance by
Annah Junge, who led CSU to a 2-1 victory.
Game One
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, as
Madelyne Lee singled to lead off the inning. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a stolen base. Then,
Gracie Prince brought her in with an RBI single. The Cougars responded with a solo home run in the top of the third inning to tie the game.
The Cougars once again broke through in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on three hits and two hit batters. The Bucs were able to cut the deficit in the bottom half of the inning, when
Raleigh Lewis brought in
Cadence Walding to make it 3-2.
Both teams scored one more in the sixth inning, as the Bucs got a run after back-to-back hit by pitches with the bases loaded. to make it 4-3. They had an opportunity with a runner on third in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to capitalize.
Riley Lauffer took the loss for the Bucs, falling to 1-14. She went 7.0 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5. CSU left 10 runners on base.
Game Two
The Bucs once again jumped out to an early lead, as they scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning without recording a hit. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch started the inning. Then,
Charlee Yourman's walk brought in the game's first run, and Maddie Lee made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
The Cougars added one run in the fifth, but that is all that Junge would give up, as she went the distance, picking up her thirteenth win of the season. She went 7.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters.

The Bucs round out the week by hosting the Campbell Fighting Camels for a three-game series beginning this Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
