Charleston Southern took third place in the 2023 Big South Outdoor conference championships. The Buccaneer men combined for five individual titles and 10 all-conference performances throughout the week.
Sprints/Hurdles
Luciano Custodio was crowned CSU's first ever conference champion in the 400m hurdles with the second-fastest mark in school history of 51.26. He also improved his 400m personal best to 47.50, taking fourth place and now ranking in the CSU Top 10.
Shawn Langley Jr. made the podium in the event with a second place finish at 46.27, the third-fastest time in school history and the fastest since 2008.
Jumps
Holden Gerth placed third in the high jump with his new outdoor best mark of 2.06m. He improved his mark from last year's Big South meet from 2.01 and matched his 2.06m performance at the Big South Indoor meet earlier this year.
Throws
Aaron Pierce took second in the javelin with his best mark measuring 60.15m.
Michael Calhoun also reached the podium in shot put. His best throw measured 16.93m.
Distance
Rob Howorth took home two conference titles this week. He won the 800m with a time of 1:51.68 and the 1500m 4:15.74. Behind him in second place in the 1500m was
Micah Gilpatric, who was also a conference champion in the 5K. Gilpatric finished the race in 14:31.38 to claim the school's first ever 5K crown. Fourth in the 5K was
Sam Waldin, and he too was a conference champion taking home the 10K title. Waldin finished with his personal best time of 29:55.58 which is the fourth sub-30 10K in school history.
Academic
Michael Calhoun was named to the conference's All-Academic team.
