Softball Tabbed with No. 1 Longwood in Big South Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. - After a sweep of the Winthrop Eagles over the weekend, the Charleston Southern softball team punched their ticket into the Big South Tournament as the fourth seed. They will take on the top-seeded Longwood Lancers on Thursday at 4 p.m in Radford, VA.

The Bucs finished the regular season with an overall record of 22-25 (11-9 in conference) and won their final two series at home and are riding a four-game winning streak into Thursday's matchup. This is the best team that Head Coach, Christi Musser has fielded during her three years at the helm.

Charleston Southern battled Longwood (29-19, 15-5 in conference) in Farmville, VA on April 15th and 16th, losing the first two games and taking the final game in 11 innings by a 1-0 score. In that final game, the Bucs had 10 hits and scored the lone run on an RBI single by Ashley Meckley. Annah Junge struck out 10 batters, did not walk a batter and through all 11.0 innings to give the Bucs the win.

The Lancers have had a number of impressive wins during the 2023 season, including a 5-4 win against No. 4 Florida State in Tallahassee, FL back in February. They also beat No. 8 Duke by a 4-3 score in April. They are led by Head Coach, Dr. Megan Brown, who joined the team in 2020.

The winner of this game will play at 2 p.m. on Friday in the winner's bracket game against either No.2 Campbell or No. 3 USC Upstate, while the loser will play in an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Friday morning.

Here is the full bracket for the tournament. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
