Women's Golf Ties for Fifth in Elon Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Charleston Southern women's golf team had another impressive tournament this week, as they finished tied for fifth in the Elon Invitational.

The team finished +25 with an overall score of 877. After a slow start, the Bucs got better in the second and third round, finishing with a 289 and 292.

Caroline Engelbredt and Odette Font were top-10 finishers, as both finished with a final score of 217. In each round, Engelbredt improved her score with scores of 74-73-70. Font was similar, 73-70-74 was her score in each round.

Elsie Verhoeven was not far behind, finishing with a 222. She had a 74 in the first round while shooting a 75 and 73 in rounds two and three. Katie Stephens had a 224, and Madison Freeman shot a 226 for the tournament to round out the tournament for the Bucs.

After dealing with some travel issues early in the week, which led to the team not having a practice round, Head Coach Chan Metts was pleased with how his group responded.

"They handled the adversity so well, and I am so happy and proud of their mental toughness and play over the event," said Metts. "They showed up on the first tee ready to compete, and they played so hard for us."

The Bucs will have to wait one month for their next tournament, as they will head across town to Edisto, where The College of Charleston is hosting the Edisto Invitational on Oct. 16th and 17th.
