NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team lost in the series finale on Monday to the USC Upstate Spartans, as 5-1 was the score in the rubber match of this conference-opening three-game series at CSU Softball Field.
After being named Big South Freshman of the Week earlier in the day for her complete-game shutout in game one,
Nealy Lamb allowed four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched to fall to 7-5 on the season. The Bucs (14-15, 1-2 in conference) fell behind 4-0, as the Spartans (14-14, 4-2 in conference) jumped on Lamb with a two-run triple with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Bucs picked up their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Madelyne Lee led things off with a double followed by a sacrifice fly by
Harper Schoeneweis. USC Upstate got one more in the top of the sixth inning, as they loaded the bases with one out, which forced the Buccaneers to go to
Riley Lauffer, who got the Spartans to fly out, but a throwing error from left field made it a 5-1 game.
Blake Holtorf lasted 1.0+ innings for the Bucs allowing one unearned run and walking three batters. Lauffer threw the final 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.

Charleston Southern will hit the road for the next 10 games starting this Wednesday, Mar. 27 when they travel to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. The doubleheader will begin at 3 PM. Both games will be streamed on SEC Network+ but will not be available on ESPN+.
