GAINESVILLE - Charleston Southern women's track competed in the Florida Relays this weekend hosted by the University of Florida.
The Buccaneers had their top performances of the weekend come from their 4x400m relay squad. They ran a time of 3:41.30 in the event during the prelims which ranks as the second-fastest in school history. In the finals for the race, the Bucs crossed the line in 4
th in an even faster time of 3:39.83, with each of the top four teams crossing within nearly half a second of each other. The team was made up of
Amaya Johnson,
Dylann Core,
Grenisha Thomas and
Jewel Ash.
They saw great performances from the team in the 400m hurdles.
Chloe Greene had a time of 1:00.99 in the event to take 20
th overall and be the 5
th fastest-ever in program history.
Brenda du Toit had a time of 1:01.35 for a season-best in the event and to take 23
rd.
In the 400m, Core and Johnson each had great runs in the event, finishing with sub-55 times. Core had 54.73 to take 17
th overall while Johnson had 54.97 for 20
th. Johnson moved herself up from 9
th to 5
th in the school record book for the event.
The team returns to the track from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13 to compete in the Duke Invitational. During this weekend, the team's throwers will make a short drive to Orangeburg, S.C. for the Sharona-Coleman Singleton Classic.
